For anyone that is interested in the war on terrorism, and article in last week’s issue of The New Yorker is must reading. Lawrence Wright’s, “The Master Plan,” discusses the development of al-Qaeda’s strategy since 9/11, gives an overview of their primary strategists, including Abu Musab al-Suri (who I wrote about here back in July, “The Architect of the New Global Jihad“), Abu Bakir Naji (author of The Management of Savagery, now available in a translation by William McCants at the Counter Terrorism Center at West Point), and a critical analysis by Jordanian author Fouad Hussein, who outlines al-Qaeda’s 7-step 20-year plan in his book, Al-Zarqawi: al-Qaida’s Second Generation. Hussein’s book is based off a number of interviews with al-Qaeda leaders and his time in prison with Zarqawi. (more…)
