It’s always easier if you’re privileged enough to stand tall, but many of us are medium height or even below average. This doesn’t stop us from being great basketball players and there’s no reason we shouldn’t know how to dunk a basketball. Still, it’s a lot tougher without those extra inches. The good news is that with hard work, you can get there. Here are a few things to keep in mind that may help.

1. If you’re at the point where you can reach rim, it’ll still take some work to dunk. One of the quickest ways to train yourself before making the jump is to try dunking with a tennis ball. It’s much easier to palm and is a great way to start out.

2. It’s important to both have leg strength and great endurance when learning how to dunk a basketball. By standing right under the basket and jumping without any kind of a running start, you’ll build both your legs and your endurance. Do fixed position jumps about 25 straight times, with no major rest in between jumps (a few seconds in between each jump tops).

3. Hopefully you have some leg muscle to help you out. If you don’t, start doing squats and dead lifts.

4. Work the back of your legs (hamstring muscles and calves). All of these things will make your jumps more explosive and you’ll be one step closer to knowing how to dunk a basketball.

5. Everyone knows that your legs must be strong, but few people realize that a strong stomach and a strong lower back really help out too. Do sit-ups and some other exercises that focus on these parts of the body.

6. Make sure you own a comfortable set of basketball shoes. They should be lightweight enough for you not to be impacted by the size of the shoes.

7. Adjust your diet. Intake of the right foods can easily help you get the maximum height out of your jumps. Your energy level is crucial when taking the steps toward knowing how to dunk a basketball.

8. This one is my secret weapon. I had to spend a few dollars for it, but it was well worth it considering that I spent years trying to learn how to dunk a basketball with no success. After buying a training course that gave me videos, workout plans, and more, I was able to dunk a basketball after about 8 weeks of practice.

To find out exactly what I used to learn how to dunk and the methods that will end up increasing vertical jump, check out my blog.

Most new bodybuilders reach a point where they start to wonder, why have they stopped growing? This stage is where most bodybuilders give up and the persisting ones end up with success. Muscle building is not only a sport where by you will make improvements by training hard. Muscles are part of our bodies. This is why the food we eat is really important. In this article, I will share with you one important topic of the muscle building diet. What to eat to gain muscles fast?

Often times, people do not fully understand the level of commitment it requires to grow muscle mass quickly. Listed below is a detailed example of a diet plan you should implement on a muscle building day. Let’s start with the morning.

Upon waking, your body requires food rich in nutrients. A combination of three eggs without the yolks and a full glass of milk is a great start, followed by cereal with milk. This meal is high in protein and carbohydrates. The protein provides the building blocks for your muscles while the carbohydrates provide your body with the energy it needs to sustain a good workout. Eggs coincidently are a natural source of protein.

Your next meal should be taken in the morning before your workout. A combination of a high protein shake, yogurt and fruit juice is excellent. The protein in this drink allows your muscles to sustain the workout ahead while the carbohydrates in the drink give the body its much needed energy as well as assisting in the absorption of the protein.

After your workout, take 4 pieces of white bread, 3 eggs and a protein shake. This meal serves to kickstart your muscle recovery and growth plan. White bread provides you with easily digested carbohydrates that keep your insulin levels high. The protein from the eggs and protein shake serves to recover your muscles with a boost in growth. Without sufficient protein, you will not grow!

During the mid afternoon, take a chicken breast or a piece of salmon. Remember to eat them steamed. Food can lose its nutritional values when you fry them! There are many recipes available online that tell you how to cook them to taste good without the harmful stuff.

The next meal is the second to the last and should be eaten around 4pm. A combination of three eggs and oatmeal. As mentioned earlier, eggs are a natural source for protein. The oatmeal provides your body with calories without harmful fats. It is important to remember that you need low fat oatmeal, those that taste good are loaded with sugar and ruin your entire muscle building plan.

Lastly, take your last meal between 7-9pm. After 9, you should try to keep off food. During this time of the day, you will need less energy as you’ll be sleeping. While sleeping, little calories are burnt and the remainder gets stored as fats. Take a protein supplement like a slow acting protein shake for this meal. The purpose is to ensure that your body has a constant source of protein even as you are sleeping. This will aid your muscle recovery plan!

As you can see, muscle building is not only about your workout. Your diet requires the highest levels of commitment in order to give you those lean muscle masses that you’ve always wanted in a short time!

If you can reduce the stress in your life, and take more rest, you could just reduce your weight at the same time. We find it hard to say no, and so end up rushing around doing far too many tasks – often skimping things instead of taking the time to do them well. We become anxious and overwrought sorting through all of our challenges. We feel the need to ‘comfort eat’ and the pounds pile on.

However, it now appears possible that there is a scientific correlation between times of stress and eating fattening food. This is the thinking behind weight gain that is stress related: When the human body undergoes enduring tension, it exudes the stress-hormone cortisol.

As a result, this stimulates the release of insulin in an effort to make our blood-sugar level stable. This insulin release makes us feel hungry- particularly for carbohydrate and fat-rich foods. And so we give in to our cravings, and our energy picks up again.

Our stress levels stabilise and we feel more at one. But very soon afterwards, our energy boost plummets! To explain – the glucose now in our bloodstream is captured by the insulin and transferred to the fat deposits around our body.

So when we’re looking to establish a new diet regime, we might just help ourselves even more if we look to establish a less stressful lifestyle. Alongside this concept, think about how much sleep you’re getting. Some years ago, the average night’s sleep was eight hours – now we’re lucky if we manage seven.

The levels of obesity in our society have risen considerably over the same period. Research shows that when we’re short of sleep, our appetite hormones rise. More waking hours equate to a greater need for nourishment.

Evidently our longing for food rises as we become more tired, and again we veer towards carbohydrates and fatty food. Having eight hours of quality sleep may be just what’s needed to retrain our hunger hormones.

So perhaps one key to weight loss (along with a great eating program of course), is to look at the ways in which we can simplify our lives and enjoy more relaxation. Remember everything doesn’t have to be done yesterday! Then take a little time to reflect as day turns into evening, have a nice warm shower and lie down to rest and enjoy the recuperation.

Are there such a things as risk factors for back pain? And, if there are, what can I do to keep myself healthy and well? Your chiropractor can help answer these questions and more.

One primary risk factor relates to exercise. Everyone has heard, “if you don’t use it, you lose it”. If you’re not exercising regularly, your back muscles are deconditioned and much more susceptible to injury – the strains and sprains we’re accustomed to calling “back pain”.

Muscles get stronger when they’re required to do work. Also exercise helps “train” the soft tissues around a joint – the ligaments and tendons – these supporting structures “learn” how to withstand mechanical stresses and loads without becoming injured. Basically, when you exercise – when you do any kind of exercise – your body gets “smarter” and you’re less likely to get those annoying back problems.1

A related risk factor is weak abdominal muscles. When you were a kid, at some point one of your gym teachers probably told you to “suck in your stomach”. Actually, it turns out that was pretty good advice. Your abdominal muscles support the muscles of your lower back. If your abdominals are weak or if you are not using them – letting them hang out and droop instead of keeping them activated – your body weight has to be held up by the muscles of your lower back. They’re not designed to do that – they’re designed to move your spine around. And eventually, these lower back muscles will give way under the excess strain. The result is a very painful lower back injury.

There are many easy-to-do exercises for your abdominal muscles. The key is to actually do them – and do them after you’re finished doing the rest of whatever exercises you’ve scheduled for that day. How often? Three times a week is plenty. Abdominal routines are quick – no more than 10 minutes. And, remember to use your abdominal muscles throughout the day. Imagine your abdominals are being pulled in and lifted up. This is not a “tightening” – your thought should be “activate”. Your body will know what to do, once you’ve started adding consistent abdominal training to your exercise routine.

Risk factors for back pain may also be found in your personal and family medical history.2,3 During your initial visit your chiropractor will ask you about accidents and surgeries you’ve experienced, and discuss any important elements in your family history. For example, surgery to remove an inflamed galllbladder or appendix or to repair a hernia may result in weakened abdominal muscles. A motor vehicle accident or a fall from a height may have caused injuries that healed with soft tissue scarring.

Learning about potential risk factors and taking appropriate action will help ensure a stronger, more flexible, and healthier lower back.

When building muscles for your chest you need to be aware of the common pitfalls and misconceptions out there. To achieve the famed chiseled look in the pectorals, or in any part of the body, it takes disciplined work. Some body builders think the most efficient way to achieve this goal is through bench presses. One exercise alone can not obtain real definition in the pectoral muscles.

To build a well-defined chest here are a few simple weight exercises you can do.

High Cable crossover will work the difficult to reach inner Pecs. Low Cable crossovers, is another inner pec exercise, the key is the correct amount of tension.

Bench press-Wide grip, your wide spaced handling will work the lower pectoral. Bench press-Close grip, this will work the inner Pecs quite well, however the movement will also work triceps and upper chest.

Dips, depending on elbow position, you can work either the inner or the outer Pecs. Dumbbell Flyers works the inner pectoral muscles but you really have to squeeze them together. Alternate this on incline, decline, and flat bench.

These exercises will benefit the chest muscles, and decrease your chances of hitting a plateau, by mixing things up a bit. It is also important for you to understand and appreciate that rest and nutrition are equally important.

Nutrition is just as important as weight lifting when you’re trying to build muscle. When you lift weights, you are actually tearing muscle tissue. You need to eat carbohydrates and proteins for your body to repair and enlarge your muscles. It is also a good idea to increase your vitamin and mineral intake.

Hydration is also important for any workout routine. The body requires water to provide nutrition to the cells, eliminate waste, and regulate internal body temperature. In addition to all these, water also cushions the joints and protects major internal organs. Increase your water intake above the recommended daily amount as strenuous exercise quickly depletes fluid levels.

Getting an adequate amount of rest is just as important to any other factor when body building. Some product salesperson suggested the thought that sleep is unfavorable to building muscle, claiming that a catabolic phenomenon occurs while at sleep. However it is a false claim by marketers wanting to sell their product on saying that this is where the muscle wastes away. This isn’t just a baldfaced lie, it may actually result in grave consequences mentally as well as physically.

Sleep is your body’s way of regenerating and healing itself, without sleep your muscles will not heal properly and all your work will have been for nothing. Not to mention the fact that you will be fatigued and enable to complete future training sessions.

Combine all of these elements and you will quickly build your muscles and have the strong, toned chest you desire. To increase the benefit from your body building work, remember to eat well, set aside enough time for quality sleep and diversify your workout routine.

Genetically it is not possible for anyone to grow taller than their bodies have been programmed to grow. However many people want to know how to grow taller as short people often suffer from insecurities regarding their height. There are Russian hospitals you can go to, to have your legs broken and stretched, but do we really need to go to those kinds of lengths? (pun intended)

I am genetically short, my father is genetically short, my grandmother on my mothers side was and my grandfather on my fathers side was. So I got the short end of the stick, but not as badly as my daughter. She is only 4′7″, she was a premature baby, who was already genetically, vertically challenged, and never grew. Fortunately, this doesn’t bother her, she has the personality of someone much taller. But height and confidence are not the same for everyone.

It has been proven that nothing can be done to change genetic programming. Who knows perhaps some breakthrough will happen in our life time, or not. So you need to take what you have and can control to change matters. Your mental and physical outlook is just as important a nutrition, and having a holistic approach.

The law of attraction dictates that we can have whatever we want as long as we believe it, feel it and behave as if it already belongs to us. So what’s a few little inches of height? Its nothing with the help of positive thinking, and taking the necessary action to achieve it! Many adults have already done this and there are even documented accounts of people growing up to as much as 4 inches taller. There are a number of techniques, and stretching exercises which have to be done, but his is a small price to pay.

By stretching and exercising in the correct way you can grow in stature and feel healthier too. These exercises may be included in your normal day to day routine, with barely a disruption. They can be done in the shower, when sitting in front of the television, or when relaxing in your garden. You don’t need a special room or any special facilities either.

Put any doubts out of your mind and remain focused. You also have to be committed, starting a program such as this without commitment is a waste of time. To succeed you have to be positive, consistent and make an effort. Things are only achieved in relationship to the amount of effort which is put into them.

If you want to grow taller you have to do your bit, you will only see results if you maintain consistency. It is no use starting a program and giving up after a few weeks. That wouldn’t work in the gym when you build muscle, it won’t work if you are trying to build on your height.

The price range of weight gainers are surprisingly expensive. You may want to consider making it yourself if you are very thin and are looking to gain weight. It’s important to know and understand the nutritional information in order to get up to your desired weight.

Weight gainers are usually purchased at nutrition and supplement stores. They usually have a picture of a bodybuilder or an arm full of muscle mass. Weight gainers are designed to help you gain a lot of weight so you can have the muscle mass you desire.

Realize that different people need differently-designed weight gainers. For example, a bodybuilder has the weight they want but they are working for more muscle mass to what they already have. Skinny people need to be aware that they must add meat to their body and then they may build muscle mass.

If you want to save a bit of money and make your own weight gainer you can. It is easy to do and most likely best for your body type anyway. One of the most important things to consider is protein, some weight gainers have a higher quality protein than others and you want to get the best you can.

Plain whey powder is not as good as isolate whey powder. Soy is even lower than the two. This is in terms of the quality of the protein. Casein stands out as an excellent, top of the line protein to mix into your weight gainer. It is a serious product, recommended not for chugging but rather measured intake.

You need to pay attention to the carbohydrate breakdown when you are planning your own weight gain regiment. The glycogen storage in your muscles will be best refilled if your carbohydrates primarily come from maltodextrin.

When you’re using a weight gainer, you should never use one with a high amount of fructose or any kinds of sugar. It is important that the amount of sugar remains low as it can lead to fatigue and headache with the possibility of jitters.

The most appropriate approach to gaining weigh fast without spending too much money is to make a weigh gainer by yourself at home. This is a really easy process you can do. You should mix only the finest quality proteins with maltodextrin. These can be found at your local vitamin or supplement shop and even a grocery store. When you are using raw oaks it is best to mix it with a shake so you can make you shake last longer and adding more calories to the drink.

Drinking your weight gaining shake is ideal right after a good workout. You can add more calories and have a higher fat intake. The shake will be steadily digested over time so that nutrients are supplied to the muscles over a sustained period.
