Rebate Checks

As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said every one of us would now get a nice rebate.

If we spend the money at Wal-Mart, it will all go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs.
If we spend it on fruit and vegetables it will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car it will all go to Japan or Germany.
If we purchase electronic gadgets it will all go to Taiwan or Malayasia.

We need to keep that money at home to strengthen our economy here, so the best way to spend it is for prostitutes and beer, (more…)

THE POLITICAL CANDIDATE PLEDGE I, ________________________________________, upon signing this document, do hereby swear and affirm under penalty of forfeiture of office and wages, that I shall: 1.) Make no public statement which demeans, denigrates, or defames any active member, unit, or branch of the U.S. armed services, or the military as a whole, except in cases where an individual soldier or group of soldiers has been tried and convicted of committing a criminal offense or offenses.

2.) Never draft, endorse by signature or vote, or lend support in some other way to any piece of legislation which affords illegal immigrants any legal rights other than basic human rights, or extends to them any employment opportunities within the United States, or public services other than emergency medical assistance. In a presidential campaign focused on the future, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama spend a lot of time talking about their pasts.

Both lean heavily on tales of early, formative experiences - she running a law clinic in Arkansas, he as a community organizer in Chicago - to show they understand the problems of average people.

Now the race for the Democratic nomination is coming down to its decisive contests, with Clinton locked in a do-or-die struggle to wrest that prize from an increasingly confident Obama, who appears poised to make history.

Voters in battleground states such as Ohio and Texas are still trying to take the measure of the two contenders - and for both candidates, these vignettes are a critical part of forging bonds with fellow Democrats.
