VW Eurovan Maintenance Notes

Here is a list of Notes I have gathered from various sources on the net.

Here’s a partial list of maintenance that hopefully has been recently done. If not, count on plunking down some additional cash:

1. Tires. If not correct load rating, you’ll need new. They aint’ cheap.
2. Serp. belt and pulleys. 30-40k interval +/-
3. Timing Belt and water pump, pulleys. 60k +/- interval.
4. Clutch if it’s 5-spd (5-spd best, but if the autos lasted this long, it is probably good. Change the ATF, though.
5. CV joints, shocks, ball joints, transmission mount.
6. Front brakes. The rears last forever on the 93’s.
7. I would read the codes. You need an OBD 1 reader. If it is CA original then it has a check engine light. Other states have no light for 1993. There may be codes even if the light is not there or not lit.

Coming Soon from VW: A 69.9 MPG Diesel Hybrid

By Chuck Squatriglia EmailFebruary 28, 2008 | 10:04:10 AMCategories: Diesel, Geneva Motor Show, Hybrids
Volkswagengolfbluemotionfrontleft It’s official – Volkswagen is unveiling a hybrid to challenge the mighty Toyota Prius. And not just any hybrid, but a diesel-electric hybrid it says will deliver 69.9 mpg.

VW’s been experimenting with hybrids of the gasoline-electric variety since the early 1990s, but the Golf hybrid it will unveil next month at the Geneva Motor Show is the first production model the German company’s rolled out. Volkswagen isn’t offering much in the way of details, but the car is expected to have a  parallel hybrid drivetrain with a 2.0 liter engine. Look for it to have an all-electric mode at low speed, start-stop capability, regenerative braking and a 7-speed DSG double-clutch transmission, according to Auto Express and AutoBlog Green.

What’s all the techno-jargon mean? The Golf Hybrid will get almost 70 mph while meeting Europe’s stringent Euro V and America’s Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions standards, making it green enough even for California. The car is said to emit just 89 g/km of CO2. (For comparison, the Prius emits 104 g/km and Honda Civic Hybrid emits 116.)

The hybrid Golf may be just the start.

According to Britain’s Channel 4, VW is considering the hybrid drivetrain in a Jetta and Audi A3. DailyTech says it also could appear in the VW Tiguan and Audi Q5 crossover utility  vehicles.

Auto Express says the Golf hybrid will be offered for sale in Europe by the end of next year. No word yet on when we might see it on this side of the pond. VW hasn’t released a picture of the hybrid, so we’re offering a shot of its diesel Golf Bluemotion.

Volkswagen Microbus Concept

VW Appears to have dropped the ball on this one…I will attempt to make it a reality. Phil…

The New Beetle allows us to relive the days of feeling young, politically oppressed and penniless, albeit with modern mechanicals and reliability. Sort of. Today’s Beetle isn’t priced to accommodate those without some means, even on the used market. And a lot of the people who buy the new bugs know very little about anything that happened in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Nor do they care. You can expect the same from whatever version of the Microbus concept arrives in the United States are reconditioned nostalgia for a price.

Frank Maratta’s Auto Show at the CT Expo gets invaded by VW’s!

Hello everyone, As most of you know the CVA will be making a showing at the Frank Maratta’s auto show at the CT Expo center in Hartford on February 8-10. We will be bringing 4 of our club members cars. This is double what we brought last year and is a very large honor.

Come visit us and show your support! Our show schedule has been set for the year- Spring Dust-off April 27th, 4th Annual New England Volks-Meet July 12th & 13th and our foliage cruise on October 19th.

There will be some other announcements soon for our Spring Kick-off date and some other fun CVA related events. Hope to see everyone at these events.

On a more personal note, I am in the process of rebuilding/ modifying my bus, which most of you know. It is finally time to start rebuilding her. On that note, I have been gathering parts to make her mobile again, as the transmission quit in the fall. I have most of the stuff I need at this point, but am in need of a good used late model bug transmission. I need th is to complete my swap and make the bus move again. If anyone has one please contact me soon. I am willing to pay for it, or swap some of what I have for one. In my inventory of parts, this is the one piece that I am missing! I would like to get this together by the Dust-Off, and seeing as I have never done this swap, I’d like to try it sooner than later.

Thanks in advance for any help and I hope to see a lot of you at Maratta’s in February. For more into go to http://www.CtVwA.com
